Meet Shake Student Ambassador Sami Mardam-Bey

Sami Mardam-Bey spent this past semester representing Shake at Syracuse University as a Shake Student Ambassador. Sami uses Shake to get agreements in writing with professors, friends and colleagues.

How do you use Shake?

In one instance, I was preparing to hand in a final draft of a paper I had written for my writing course at Syracuse. The deadline was approaching and I felt that my paper was not as polished as I’d hoped it to be and I knew that with a little more time I could hand in an exceptionally written piece. With that in mind, I approached my professor after class and kindly requested a two-day extension, explaining to her why this would benefit me in the long run. She explained that this would be fine, but she seemed skeptical about whether or not I would uphold my promise to hand in the paper. I quickly took out my phone and explained Shake to her, demonstrating its various uses. In a matter of minutes, I drafted a document stating the terms of our agreement and prompted her to sign it. She was quite impressed and pleased that I had taken such initiative to ensure that I would live up to my promise. Two days later, I handed in the paper as agreed, and was pleased to receive an A on the paper a week later.

How did you handle your contracting needs before Shake?

Before discovering Shake, these situations were solely based on my word. While I like to think of myself as an honest man, sometimes simply counting on someone by what they’ve said to you can cause a lot of drama and miscommunication.

What are the elements you like the most about Shake?

I love that Shake allows you to draw up your own terms, making them specific to your needs and requirements. This allows both parties to feel comfortable with the agreement they’ve made.

To whom would you recommend Shake?

I would recommend Shake to my colleagues at school who are constantly making agreements through a simple handshake. While we are all trustworthy individuals, solidifying an agreement in writing can go a long way.

As a Shake Student Ambassador, is there anything else you want potential Shake users to know?

Don’t pass up the opportunity to get something in writing! I can’t stress how important that is, whether its for something as small as handing in a paper, or starting up a business venture!
