HOW DO YOU USE SHAKE?
As a freelance writer, I just want to write. I hate dealing with the logistics of running a “business” as a writer: I don’t mind getting pieces in on deadline, but I hate worrying about making sure that I’ll get paid on time, establishing fair “kill” fees if they don’t accept the piece, agreeing that editors won’t take my ideas. I realize that there are a lot of things I’m good at: handling the legal side of being a freelancer isn’t one of them. Shake lets me focus on what I’m good at.
HOW DID YOU PREVIOUSLY CREATE CONTRACTS?
Not well! I tended to cobble agreements together based on what I could find via Google.
WHAT KIND OF IMPACT HAS SHAKE HAD ON YOUR PRODUCTIVITY?
It’s been great for my productivity, but best for my anxiety! I don’t have to worry about forgetting to insert an important clause or stressing that I haven’t protected myself enough in a contract. I’m not constantly second-guessing myself or endlessly Googling to make sure everything is covered.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT THE SHAKE APP?
It has a super clean interface that is really easy to use, and it asks all the questions that I usually forget to ask.
TO WHOM WOULD YOU RECOMMEND SHAKE?
Freelance writers, photographers, consultants—anyone who is running their own business and wants to make sure they’re covering all their bases.
