Whether you’re booking a gig, running a recording session, or performing at an event, a musician agreement can help keep everyone in tune.
Musicians lead busy lives, and so do the people who hire them. There are gigs to book, logistics to execute, staff to coordinate, and promotions to undertake. The last thing anyone wants to deal with are legal contracts. Yet contracts are essential, because unfortunately disputes happen all the time. Most can be prevented by establishing written expectations upfront via a contract.
That’s why we’re pleased to announce the release of two agreements for musicians and those who hire them.
Musician Work for Hire Agreement: Recording Session
When a musician is hired for a recording session, it’s important that the rights to that recording go to the hirer, so that the hirer can freely incorporate the musician’s contribution into the final work. The Recording Session template is designed for this purpose. It also covers a number of other areas, including:
- The time and location of the session/s
- Payment terms
- Permissions & waivers for images and recordings
- Confidential Information
Agreeing on these points will go a long way to ensuring a smooth relationship between the musician and the hirer.
Musician Work for Hire Agreement: Live Performance
When a musician is hired for a live performance, the main concern is nailing down logistical details and responsibilities. The Live Performance template is designed to do this. Among the things it covers are:
- Time time and location of the performance/s
- Payment terms
- Who will provide what equipment
- Travel, accommodation and meals
- Recordings and images
- Delay, interruption & finish times
- Artistic Control
The Live Performance template is designed to cover all the bases to give the hirer and the performers the peace of mind to work with each other.
